Ian Naisbitt - 2001 Biophilia Award

Mr. Ian Naisbitt, founder and leader of the Littler River Enhancement Group of Concord Public School in Riverside. Nominated by his principal, Ms. Clara Howitt, Ian exemplifies the goals of the award to recognize the person or group who has had the most impact in making ours a more biophilial community.

With twelve years of engaging over 3000 young people, their parent and the community in the task of returning the Little River- an eroded and exploited garbage dump – to its former state as a treasure of natural beauty plus dozens of other projects, Ian and his group exemplify the ideals of Biophilia.

It started in 1989 with a package from the Canadian Wildlife Federation entitled, “Act Today for Wildlife in the Year 2000” and resulted in the Little River Enhancement group, the “Kids for Saving the Earth” group, adopting a Bay of Fundy Humpback Whale, a West Indian Manatee and Carmanah giant tree, saving a portion of the Amazon Rainforest, protecting Ontario wetlands, and adopting a killer whale. Regrettably, we do not have the room here to list all of Mr. Naisbitt’s accomplishments – there are fourteen pages of them!
