STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

DIVISION:     Spay/Neuter Services

TITLE:           Surgical Pack Maintenance

•          1 spay pack will be used per cat

•          neuter pack will be shared between all male cats

•          instrument packs are double wrapped and sealed with autoclave tape

•          gown pack is wrapped in a single layer and sealed with autoclave tape

•          autoclave tape is labelled (eg. spay pack), dated and initialled

•          sharps should be disposed of immediately upon completion of surgery

•          instruments should be soaked in water until clinic is complete

•          at Jazzpurr house instruments are scrubbed with hibitane and periodically soaked in instrument milk

•          packs are rewrapped and autoclaved

Spay Pack

•          1 metzenbaum scissors

•          1 adson tissue forceps

•          1 brown adson tissue forceps

•          4 towel clamps

•          2 carmalt forceps (1 straight, 1 curved)

•          1 scalpel handle

•          4 mosquito hemostats (2 straight, 2 curved)

•          1 spay hook

•          1 needle driver

•          sterility indicator

•          gauze squares

•          1 surgical drape

Neuter Pack

•          6 curved mosquito hemostats

•          18 gauze squares

•          sterility indicator

Gown Pack

•          1 surgical gown

•          1 terry towel

•          sterility indicator
