GOALS:
1. To transport post-surgical cats with a minimum of stress.
2. To transport post-surgical cats with a minimum of risk of infection.
PROCEDURES:
1. Before leaving for clinic, unlock the chain and storm door of the reception room. Keep the doorknob and deadbolt locked. Hang clean lab coats in the reception room and outside the recovery room. Make certain cages are ready to receive the post-operative cats. Make certain that the transport vehicle is as clean as possible to avoid contamination.
2. At the clinic: Once the cats have been returned to their carriers, hold them in a clean environment.
3. Before beginning transport, bring the vehicle as close to the door as possible. Bring the temperature of the vehicle to normal room temperature.
4.. Arrange the vehicle to receive the cats.
5. Cover the surface of the vehicle where the carriers will be placed with a freshly laundered sheet.
6. Place the cat carriers on the sheet.
6. Cover the carriers with another clean sheet.
8. When arriving at the shelter, park as close as possible to the reception room door.
9. Bring the cats quickly and carefully into the reception room. Leave your coats, boots, etc. in the reception room. Put on a clean lab coat.
10. Carry the cats directly and quickly into the recovery room.
11. Place them carefully into the prepared cages and perform all relevant duties in the room.
12. When exiting, leave those lab coats in the room, go outside and put on the clean lab coats you left on the outside hooks. Wash your hands.
